July’s Theme: Wonderful Sourdough

Happy July! So June has passed in a flash, with lots of delightful sunshine and a real opportunity to top up our vitamin D levels!

I’ve been lucky to have been away on 2 holidays this month, and rounded June off with a Live chat over on the FB page on the importance of vitamin D, which literally underpins the whole immune system and is involved in numerous processes throughout the body! Jenna wrote a most informative post over on Natural Living on sunscreens and the best companies to buy from so be sure to check it out!

This month we will be exploring the wonderful world of sourdough! I’ve been really excited for this month, making sourdough is so much fun and nowhere near as hard as everyone thinks it is!

Sourdough is real bread, made with 3 ingredients, and slowly fermented to perfection by the magical microbes in the starter, resulting in a highly nutritious, highly digestible delicious bread with a wee sour tang, which naturally preserves it! It’s miles away from the cheap processed bread which is devoid of fibre, nutrition and full of gut-harming chemicals, and glyphosate residues, which we would do well to avoid completely!

So, this month I’ll be covering literally everything you need to know, including flour, equipment, baking methods, making and maintaining a starter, adapting a recipe, nutritional and health benefits and my top tips and recipes!

I have been making sourdough for around 10 years, and have my recipes and method honed and simplified so that anyone can make them, and believe me learning to make our own sourdough is a life skill well worth acquiring!!

There is more to sourdough than white bread with loads of holes in it! Think delicious pizza bases, crackers, blinis, crepes, pancakes, scones, flatbreads, and cookies to name just a handful. There is so much you can do with sourdough, it’s just a matter of getting started and giving it a go! This is going to be a really great month for all the bread lovers out there so come and join the fun!

I will be posting videos over on the FB group and doing a few Live Chats so be sure to check in regularly during the month!

In good health,

Janice x
