December’s Theme: A Handmade Christmas
So here we are in December with Christmas fast approaching!
November was a busy month, I was painting and decorating our lounge so had to block off a few days so I would actually do it and not distract myself making things in the kitchen or reading books!
Life is all about balance so after my week of decorating I headed off to Oban to spend a few days with my foraging friend Vicky, which was just the tonic I needed! A few days reconnecting to nature, meeting Vicky’s gorgeous wee grandson, and lots of woodland walks with Bernie and Alfie, her dogs!
Winter is a time when we should be slowing down, staying cosy and going to bed early with a good book! Sadly most folks these days live in a permanent state of busyness and stress, which is not conducive to a state of wellbeing, and there is no busier time than Christmas with all of its costs and considerations!
So this month I’d love you to join me in rebellion against the Christmas madness, instead let’s just slow right down and enjoy the little moments. Sitting beside the twinkling tree, baking cookies for gifts and watching festive films with your favourite people. No need for fuss, no expectations and no unnecessary gift buying.
Our family have a homemade Christmas most years, but this year especially we are stripping it right back; the food and being together are the most important parts. We don’t care about presents under the tree, we care about who is in our midst, relishing real food, laughter and joy together. What could be better? On that note, do remember to check out all the Festive Recipes on the Website and get some festive ferments on the go!!
Announcements!
Jenna has created a new e book with lots of ideas for foodie gifts, and in the spirit of the season, we are asking for a donation to The Salvation Army to download a copy. There are so many people who won’t be having a wonderful time, with neither a home nor the money to put food on the table or buy gifts, so please consider a donation to this most deserving charity, supporting the most vulnerable at this time of year. It’s also my birthday this month, so my birthday wish is for as many people to buy this wee book and make someone else’s Christmas a bit brighter! It’s almost done- a second email with the link will be sent out in early December.
We are having a Christmas Lunch at SFK on Sunday 8th December at 1pm and there are still places left if you’d like to come and join us! It’s always a joyful celebration when we Hubbers get together!
Lastly, I have at last joined TikTok and Kathryn is helping me to build a profile so please follow me if TikTok is your thing.
Have a wonderful month, whatever you are up to!
Festive blessings to you and yours,
Janice
