April’s Theme: Joyful Movement

Well here we are at the start of a new month, spring is officially here, the lambs are frolicking and jumping around in the sunshine, which reminds me of the importance of movement and exercise! So this month is dedicated to joyful movement.

I have to admit I have been using my broken wrist as an excuse not to do any exercise other than walking and I am starting to feel a bit sluggish and stiff! We all know the saying,  if you don’t use it, you lose it!! And that relates to many areas of our lives.

Exercise can take many forms from a gentle stroll, to a bracing wild swim, gardening, a relaxing yoga session, seasonal Qigong, hiking, a jog, a sprint, powerlifting in the gym, weight bearing resistance work, a short Hiit workout, dancing- the list goes on!

All of them are good but we need to mix it up a bit, use different muscle groups, challenge our cardiovascular system and adapt as we grow older or have any injuries.

But what are the benefits of movement?

  • You may be surprised to know there are many and one of them is to shake up our wee gut buddies and give them a boost!

  • Another is to get our lymph moving which is a really important part of our immune system, which stagnates if we are sedentary!

We will be looking at the other benefits this month and exploring many fun ways to get ourselves moving!

Our guest this month is the lovely Jen Wilson, who will be over on the FB group motivating and inspiring us to get out of our chairs and off the sofa! She will be live with me on Thursday 4th April at 1 pm so be sure to tune in for some inspiration!

We also have the awesome Sacha Mason McKenzie, our very own Qi Gong expert, who will be joining us and sharing some seasonal moves.

We have a day retreat booked for The Wellness Hub at the fabulous Ardmay House in Arrochar on Sunday 5th May, which will be a perfect combination of cold water, sauna, forest bathing, breathwork, gentle movement and of course- delicious food!

Details coming soon…

ALso this month, I’ll be taking part in the Heal Scotland Wild Medicine in Tarbert weekend from 12th to 14th, here is the link if anyone wants to join the fun, there are a few tickets left!

I am off to Aberdeen on 16th to chat to a Breast Cancer Support Group, of which Wellness Hub member Lara Hendry is a part of, to share how to support the immune system and rebuild the gut microbiome during and after treatment, which is exactly what Lara did with great results, incorporating fermented foods and drinks, and exercising throughout her treatment. She is a superstar and has been selected for a TV programme later this year, a hike through the Brecon Beacons, to raise awareness for Coppafeel, and to raise funds. We will of course be supporting her every step of the way!!

Iona is calling me at the end of the month for some restorative time with friends in the most beautiful spiritual place, it’s become an annual pilgrimage that I really cherish.

Lots of fun to be had this month, so let's get ourselves moving in whatever way feels best.

In good health,
